| On the Airfoil Selector page you can select two parameters
to optimizer your airfoil selection. For example, if you want the
maximum lift and the minimum cruise drag, you can select "Maximum
Cl" and "Cd at Cruise Cl" for the two optimization
parameters. The selector chart will then display points representing
various airfoils that have good lift and drag characteristics for your
application. On the chart you should see a red square that
represents the "target" for the optimization. The numbers
on the other points on the chart show which airfoils are closest to the
optimum. The list on the right hand side of the screen shows the
ranking of the airfoils more clearly.
At this point you may want to start looking at the individual airfoils
in more depth. Start by selecting the top ranked airfoil. You
can select it by clicking on the box labeled #1 or clicking on the first
airfoil on the list at the right side of the screen. The airfoil you
clicked on will now be selected as the Candidate Airfoil. Now switch
to the Performance Comparison page to look at
how that airfoil compares to the Baseline Airfoil, or you can switch to
the Airfoil Polar Viewer to get an in-depth look
at the selected airfoil.
